A Happy Home

4 Great Things To Do With Your High School Youth Group This Summer

If you run a high school youth group, the summer vacation provides you with a lot more time to work with the students in your ministry and help them grow in their faith. Here are a few great ideas of things you can do together with your high school youth group this summer.

Run A Camp For Younger Members Of The Church

A great way to teach your high school youth group students how to share their faith is by providing them with a comfortable setting to reach out. Have your youth group organize and run a camp for the younger members of your church or community. This is a great way for your youth group students to share their faith while also learning what it takes to put on a large event. They will have to learn how to work together as a group to pull together a summer camp and they will have to learn how to support one another. This can be a great team-building exercise as well as a great way to allow your students to practice sharing and living out their faith.

Assign Each Group A Way To Help The Church Community

A church is comprised of many different members with different needs. Sit down with your high school youth group and in small groups, discuss ways that the church or individual members need help. Have each small group brainstorm a particular way that they can help the church itself or the larger church family. Then challenge that small group to act on their ideas, and help them implement and follow through with it.

For example, if the church parking lot needs to be repainted, maybe a group of students offers to clean up, paint and make the parking lot look great again. Or perhaps the students want to throw a date-night, where they watch the children of the young families in your church so the parents can have a night together.

The key is to let your students brainstorm and take ownership over this project; they may have some great ideas that you would not have thought of. Help them turn their ideas into actions, and see what it means to live out their ideals and beliefs.

Organize A Volunteer Community Outreach

Next, teach your youth group that their good deeds should not only extend to church members. Plan a few different community volunteer outreach events for your youth group to attend and give back. This is a great way to get your students more involved in the community, and to show them that living their faith is sometimes just about doing a good deed for others.

Plan A Trip To A Nearby Nature Area

Finally, make sure that you have some good old fashioned fun with your youth group. Reward your youth group for all of their hard work with some bonding time. Take a day trip or overnight trip to a local nearby nature area. Perhaps there is a great place nearby where you can all go hiking together, or maybe there is an amazing swimming hole where you live. Find somewhere where the kids in your group can engage in a variety of healthy, outdoor activities while they relax and bond with one another.
